What's Up Wednesday

What's Up Wednesday is a weekly blog hop created by Jaime Morrow and Erin Funk to help writers connect and encourage each other. Want to join in? YOU TOTALLY SHOULD! Head over to Jaime and Erin's blogs to find out more :)

WHAT I'M READING: I'm reading YES, PLEASE by Amy Poehler. I've been reading mostly fiction lately so it's a nice change and I'm enjoying it. I've never seen Parks and Recreation so I'm going to have to check that out as well.

WHAT I'M WRITING: Still revising the MG mystery. At the moment it feels like they will put this in my obituary (She is survived by her two children, her pack of naughty dogs, and her nearly completed middle grade manuscript...) but I WILL FINISH it soon!

WHAT WORKS FOR ME: Caffeine. When I get up early to write I set out everything I will need for tea or coffee in the morning so that all I have to do when I get up is stumble to the kitchen and press the button on the kettle. My goal is to someday build a Pee-wee style Rube Goldberg Breakfast machine that will deliver coffee straight to my desk.

WHAT ELSE IS NEW: Serial is my new obsession. I took a road trip for work last week and listened to the first eight episodes and I. Am. HOOKED. Fascinating on so many levels. If you haven't listened, you really should give it a try. (And then leave a comment saying what you think because I would love to hear it!)

What's up with you this week?

  1. Haha, hang in there and I'm sure you'll make it through the revisions :D

Mmmm, you know, I haven't had enough tea this morning... I must remedy the situation immediately.

    Have a fantastic week ^_^

  2. Ah caffine (: it's not really caffine but I do enjoy a great hot chocolate, preferably peppermint during these cold months while I write (:

  4. I hear great things about YES PLEASE. My critique partner just read it and loved it. She listened to the audiobook which Amy Poheler apparently narrated! Good luck with your revisions. You can do it!!!! (#teamhowland for the win)

And ahhh yes caffeine is my friend too. ;-)

  6. Hmm. You're the second or third person I've heard mention Serial. I think I might have to check this out now. I've been wanting to read Amy Poehler's book as well. I've ready Tina Fey's and Mindy Kaling's books and, like you say, it's a nice change from all of the fiction. Plus, they're usually pretty funny given the fact that the authors are comedians.

I followed the link to the Breakfast Machine and just seeing Pee-Wee got the theme song lodged in my brain lol. Oh, Pee-Wee. Hope you have a wonderful day, Carrie! :D

  7. Laughed out loud at your obituary. I know exactly how you feel! But it will get done, and sometimes it looks the least likely right before you break out into the sunshine of the end.

I've never heard of Serial before, and it sounds super intriguing. Thanks for the tip!

  8. I'm not a fan of non-fiction but I bet Amy Poehler writes a great book!
I wrote an obit a long time ago about querying, I can't remember it exactly now but I died surrounded by rejections or something like that. Yours is great!

  9. Okay, I can't stop laughing over your obituary comment and the Pee-Wee Rube Goldberg breakfast machine. I watched the Pee-Wee clip and boy does that bring back crazy childhood memories. Keep plugging away at your revisions! I'm sure your middle grade mystery will be awesome all said and done! :)

  10. Hah! "A Pee Wee style breakfast machine" Yes! *starts building one now* *takes coffee break*

Changing your tombstone moniker seems like a good reason to finish a book. I'm gonna add that to my life goals.

Hope you have brilliant week! I'll let you know when the breakfast machine is ready.
