What's Up Wednesday

What's Up Wednesday is a weekly blog hop created by Jaime Morrow and Erin Funk to help writers connect and encourage each other. Last week was my first time, and I want to thank everyone for the warm welcome. The writing community is an amazing place :)

WHAT I'M READING: I just finished THIS SHATTERED WORLD by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner and holy wow. I loved it - if you liked THESE BROKEN STARS (and I'll just bet you did) then I highly recommend picking this one up when it comes out next month!

WHAT I'M WRITING: Still working on revisions for my MG mystery. Interesting side note: it has been pointed out to me (nicely) that I may have too many references to plastic surgery, porn, and India in this manuscript. Why, brain, why? I don't spend a lot of time thinking about any of these three things, so what are they doing in my story?

WHAT WORKS FOR ME: Getting up early in the morning to write. With two nap-averse toddlers, two energetic dogs, and two persnickety cats (not to mention the job and the husband) I never have guaranteed writing time during the day, so getting my butt in the chair before the sun comes up is my best bet.

WHAT ELSE IS NEW: I have been eating spinach and kale! I am the world's lamest vegetarian (I hate pretty much all vegetables, except pickles*), so this is huge for me. I've been making Lola Berry smoothies and I've devoured whole CUPS OF SPINACH for breakfast. Positively Popeye-esque.

Thanks so much to Jaime and Erin and I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone else has been up to this week!

*Pickles are totally a vegetable because they are green and I read it somewhere once so there.

  1. Spinach? Wow, you are *brave*.

Good luck with the edits :D

  2. I really want to read those two books. I'm glad you loved them!

  3. Good luck with your edits, Carrie! I can't wait to see what you and our fearless leader do together in the end with your ms :D I LOOOOVED This Shattered World…I was able to get a copy back in May and it was amazing. We so need to talk about it! :-D
Good luck with the rest of the week and all that kale ;-)

  4. Haha wow, Popeye would be proud!

I still haven't read These Broken Stars - I'm so behind in the world of YA, and all these books are so pretty in hardback and I'm too poor to afford them. I really need to get my hands on this series, though.

Good luck finding time to write (and not writing about India and porn when you do), have a great week!

  5. Kale! Thank you. I have some sausages in the fridge and have been wondering what to cook with them. Kale sounds perfect :)
    Good luck with edits.

  6. Pickles are a vegetable for sure. So are olives, or maybe they are a fruit.

  7. Oh boy, I can't even tell you how jealous I am that you've already read THIS SHATTERED WORLD! I'm looking forward to that so much. As far as writing time, I'm the opposite of you. I'm a night owl because that's my guaranteed quiet time. Good luck with those revisions and have a super week! :)

  8. I completely forgot that THIS SHATTERED WORLD was coming out soon. It's too bad it's not until December 25th because that would have been a good book for my Christmas list! Ah well. As for writing, I'm an early morning writer too. As the day goes on, my brain turns more and more to mush and my motivation goes right out the window.

Hope you have an awesome week! (I was originally going to skip WUW today, but ended up posting after all.) :D

  9. You are so incredibly lucky! I keep thinking that I've missed the release date for This Shattered World and trying to get it, only to be reminded that it doesn't come out yet. I'm so excited!

  10. I love to eat spinach with eggs, it doesn't make it healthy but it sure is tasty. Good luck with your MG mystery. Have a great week!

  11. How did you get THIS SHATTERED WORLD?! I am so envious! THESE BROKEN STARS was one of my favorites of last year -- such amazing storytelling. Best of luck with your revisions, Carrie... I'm rooting for you!

  12. I love spinach, but I usually have to hide kale in other foods to stomach it. It's just SO MUCH LEAFY.

Pickles - definitely a vegetable. Made better by vinegar and spices.

    Good luck with revisions!

  13. Good luck with your revisions, Carrie! On the vegetable issue, I'm not big on them, but I love baby spinach salads, or spinach omelettes. I find kale has a strong taste to it. Hope you enjoy the rest of your week! :)

  14. I still need to read THESE BROKEN STARS - it looks so good!

Another vegetarian! *hi-five* I think you're fussier than me, and that's saying a lot. :P

    Have a great week!
